Robin Wright Is Fighting The Good Fight For Equal Pay On ‘House Of Cards’

There are still people out there that truly, with all of their heart, believe that there is no such thing as gender inequality and that the wage gap was a creation by some people sitting in a smoke-filled room to help enslave men. Actresses like Jennifer Lawrence, Patricia Arquette, and more have spoken out about wanting equal pay and the responses aren’t always the most thoughtful. Let’s be real here, Jennifer Lawrence is a national treasure, as are many other actresses, and they are just as much a draw to their movies as big name male actors are. If you somehow disagree, just look at how huge the Hunger Games series was.

Now another actress is stepping up to the plate and demanding that she gets paid as well as her male counterparts, that actress being Robin Wright. Wright, who stars in Netflix’s smash hit House of Cards alongside Kevin Spacey, has been just as important to the series as Spacey has been. Sure, Frank Underwood is the star of the show, but there would be no show without Claire, now would there? The producers of the show didn’t put up much of a fight when she demanded equal pay, though, because really, the reasoning was sound.

“I was looking at statistics and Claire Underwood’s character was more popular than [Frank’s] for a period of time. So I capitalized on that moment. I was like, ‘You better pay me, or I’m going to go public,'” she told the audience. “And they did.”

So Wright is now making the same as Spacey, which has been reported at $500,000 per episode of House of Cards. Good for her. I wouldn’t imagine Claire Underwood somehow taking anything less than Frank would on the show, so it’s about time reality catches up with fiction.
