Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe are really playing up their chemistry in the buildup to The Nice Guys release next week. Both appeared on The Late Show on Thursday to joke around with Stephen Colbert, but Gosling came prepared with a heavy arsenal of jokes and Lord of the Rings trivia. The latter comes thanks to his mother, and it seems to be the first time that Stephen Colbert has been stumped by a question about J.R.R. Tolkien’s classic fantasy epic.
I’m not sure it actually counts, but I would count it as a victory for the legendary Baby Goose. Wear the crown with pride.
This doesn’t stop him from throwing a bit of a tantrum later on, walking off from the second half of the interview after being “insulted” by his co-star. Crowe does get a moment to mention the rugby team he owns in Sydney, but Gosling stretches out his exit. This leads to some funny moments with Russel Crowe and a T-shirt cannon, Gosling and Jon Batiste, and Gosling with Colbert’s bookshelf. I’m pretty sure Crowe killed one of the audience members with his final shot. There’s a reason they volley those things into the crowd.
