‘Sandman’ TV Series Not Happening

Back in September, “Supernatural” creator Eric “Officer” Kripke was the top choice to make a TV adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s acclaimed Sandman comic. Unfortunately for Gaiman fans — or perhaps fortunately? — Kripke says that despite some discussions with Gaiman, the series won’t be happening.

Speaking from the red carpet before the Supernatural panel at PaleyFest on Sunday afternoon, Kripke says The Sandman “just didn’t quite happen this season through nobody’s fault, and hopefully we can do it again in the future.” [THR]

Honestly, this is probably for the best. The worlds that Gaiman created for Sandman would be incredibly difficult to bring to the screen, and the protagonist is a moody character who isn’t always likable. A TV series might not succeed and would almost certainly piss off the comic geeks. And NOBODY wants to piss off the comic geeks. When they protest something, the stench of B.O. and Cheetohs is overwhelming.

Meanwhile, Gaiman is busy writing a film treatment of a Chinese novel for Zhang Jizhong. Ha ha ha, jiz hong.
