John Cena’s Alpha Male Frame Makes For A Poor Dating Show Host On ‘SNL’

John Cena hosted one of the final SNL episodes of the year and followed up his fightin’ monologue with a hypothetical MTV dating show sketch called “Hook a Hunk.” The results easily evoked the Singled Out days of yesteryear with typically awkward results. That is to say, no one really expects such shows to yield long-term romantic results, but it’s entertainment, baby.

The faux show’s host, Cena, ended up hooking the female contestant (Cicily Strong) despite all efforts from three potential suitors. That’s what happens when the host is too gosh-darned handsome. These poor guys were no match for Cena’s muscles, which he paired with Mark Wahlberg’s hair in such a way that one mysterious scar didn’t deter the chemistry from boiling over.

Soon enough, Strong’s character fell into the strong arms of Cena and (presumably) inspired two jilted contestants to quickly fall into each other’s arms. This left the third option without satisfaction, much like the television audience.

Sadly, the sketch geared itself towards shock and controversy at the expense of humor. Sure, it’ll create some online buzz, which was likely the intent in pulling Cena in for a hosting gig in the first place. So, objective accomplished? Onto the next sketch…
