‘True Detective’ Female Lead Casting News Of The Day: Rachel McAdams Is Back In

After the internet moved past the wild and baseless speculation period of early True Detective casting news, only three names were being seriously bandied about for the male leads: Colin Farrell, Taylor Kitsch, and Vince Vaughn. We’ve now got Farrell and Vaughn locked down, and just waiting on Kitsch.

For the female role, on the other hand, you’d probably have a shorter list if you named every Hollywood actress whose name hasn’t been tied to True Detective. Just yesterday Keira Knightley joined the club that already boasts Elisabeth Moss, Jessica Biel, Rachel McAdams, and Rosario Dawson, to name a few. And even though Deadline just said that Rachel McAdams was probably out due to scheduling conflicts two days ago — today Variety is reporting that no really, for real, Rachel McAdams is like THIS CLOSE to locking down a deal. Just you wait and see.

Sources tell Variety HBO has offered McAdams the part opposite Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn. Taylor Kitsch is also expected to land the role of the fourth lead.

At this point, until we hear confirmation from HBO, I’m not taking anything I hear seriously. In the meantime, this is a game anyone can play. Here’s some names: Emma Stone. Jena Malone. Jenna Dewan. Jenna Jameson. Courtney Stodden. All potential names for the female lead of True Detective season two, according to me. Really, just throw any old name at the wall at this point and see what sticks.
