Watch A News Anchor Get Tricked Into Reading Her Own Marriage Proposal On The Air

Like almost any great power, the ability to get people on the news to say whatever words happen to be in front of them at the time on live television can be used for good or evil. We saw the latter late last week, when a Los Angeles weatherman was tricked into wishing a young man named “Hugh Janus” a happy birthday at the end of his forecast. (NOTE: Hilarious.) And now, here is the side of the coin with little angel wings carved into it: A Huntsville, Alabama news anchor named Jillian Pavlica was told she had an important update to read off the prompter, but it turned out she was actually about to read her own marriage proposal.

The “breaking news” script read, “We’ve got breaking news to share with you tonight. FOX54 has just learned that a Huntsville news anchor is being proposed to on live TV right now!”

Jillian made it to “proposed” and then figured it out. Out came Vince, Jillian’s boyfriend (now fiance). He got on one knee and popped the question. [FOX54]

This is all very cute, and congratulations are in order for the happy couple, but I don’t want to gloss over the real story here: Her fiancé is an incredibly brave, confident man. If this proposal had gone south, it would have gone SOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUTH. Getting denied on a Jumbotron at a sporting event is one thing, but getting denied on live television in the age of the embeddable video clip? Hoo boy. Knowing that is a possibility and doing something like this anyway shows way more courage than any stupid tightrope walk.
