Arcade Fire would be SO pretentious if they weren’t SO good. They’re performing under a new moniker, in paper mâché heads, singing about “isolation in the modern world.” And yet: goddamn is “Afterlife” a great song, one that, in the words of lead singer/tall person Win Butler, makes you want to “[shake] that ass with a little tear in your eye.”
Last night, Arcade, a.k.a. the Reflektors, a.k.a. the Steely Dan of Canada, a.k.a. Win and Régine Chassagne are an adorable indie rock couple stopped by The Colbert Report, where the Butler brothers spoke to Stephen before the full band performed “Normal Person.” Watch the fake-out to end all paper mâché fake-outs below.
I say this as an Arcade Fire superfan who already has Reflektor preordered… They’re pretentious as hell MUSICALLY. As people they’re awesome. Sort of an inverse U2.
Really? I’ve heard a lot of people that Win Butler is a HUGE dick.
I’ve heard just the opposite. The only person I heard that didn’t like him was Wayne Coyne.
One of my pet peeves is bands that have way too many members, there is no reason to have that many people for such simple music.
Musicians can listen to the music and see the need for that many pieces (some people are playing subtle things, but they matter to the whole), Non-Musicians shouldn’t be bothered by the amount of musicians on stage…this new trend of hating on bands that have more than 4 musicians is completely crazy to me. Sounds like people really reaching to find reasons to explain their tastes (it’s fine to say you just don’t like the music)
I actually think it would be rather hard to kill a fly with a bazooka.
Arcade Fire = Snooze Fest. I dont really understand peoples fanscination with the band. I have given them a shot and I really dont get it.
yeah I mean they had to write an elaborate code to help aim lasers to kill mesquitoes
That was actually Arcade Fire? I watched the interview and I actually liked the song, but I thought they were some new band named The Deflektors. I am an old person.
