What’s On Tonight: ‘The Americans’ – Yes, ‘Mixology’ – NO

The Americans (FX, 10:00 p.m.) – Season premiere. The Americans doesn’t get enough credit for being one of the better shows on television. This is a shame. We should work on it. (Check out this really cool teaser, if you somehow missed it on TV over the last month or so.)

Mixology (ABC, 9:30 p.m.) – Series premiere. This is ABC’s latest “young-ish people hanging out at a bar” show, with the hook being that the entire season takes place over one night. The reviews have been almost unanimously awful. Does it bother me that ABC sh*tcanned Happy Endings and then rolled out what appears to be a smelly garbage parade in its place? Yes. Does it help that some hero put every episode of Happy Endings on YouTube? It does.

Survivor: Cagayan (CBS, 8:00 p.m.) – Season premiere. The latest iteration of Survivor will see the cast broken up into three groups: Brains, Brawn, and Beauty. Full cast analysis here. Morgan looks like … a strong competitor.

Law & Order: SVU/Chicago P.D. (NBC, 9:00-11:00 p.m.) – Crossover. Tonight on Chicago P.D., Ice-T’s character from SVU shows up in the Windy City to help investigates a series of rapes and murders. This is the greatest idea NBC has had in well over a decade. I hope it’s a huge success and Ice-T starts dropping in on other shows in character, too. Just imagine him swinging by Greendale to give a guest lecture about campus safety and being serious as sh*t about it. It would be riveting television.

Legit/Ali G: Rezurection (FXX, 10:00 p.m.) – I’m not saying it’s a bad sign for your career if your whole schtick is fooling people with deep character work and you resort to rolling out a well-known decade-old character for a show on a cable network that lots of people still don’t even know if they get or not, but … no, that is definitely what I’m saying.

Workaholics/Broad City (Comedy Central, 10:00 p.m.) – Is Broad City funnier than Workaholics? Discuss.

LATE NIGHT GUESTS: Ellen Degeneres and Tom Ford on Kimmel; Meredith Viera on Letterman; Alice Eve and Bojana Novakovic on Ferguson; Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler on Fallon; Kelly Ripa and Brad Paisley on Meyers; and Sarah Michelle Gellar, Nick Kroll, and Ted Alexandro on Conan.
