Before you think this is another “adorable old person” video, trust me on this: Our elders make great stand-up comedians. Why? I will tell you, my dear children: Because after spending all these decades on Earth and putting up with the likes of us and the other people who came before us, the world’s senior citizens cannot bring themselves to GAF anymore. That’s called raw, brutal honesty, and that’s what is at the core of every great comedian.
Chuck Esterly is 89 years old and stepping onstage for the first time in his stand-up comedy debut at Cincinnati’s Go Bananas Comedy Club, and while he’s not a seasoned pro — which, whatever, it’s his first time doing this — he really does deliver some solid jokes that are, as I said, honest. And he looks like he’s having fun, which is the most important part! In the end, that’s all that matters, right? And it’s never too late to try something new.
