Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles was a quite good series that unfortunately only lasted two seasons and ended on a cliffhanger. So it’s good news that… wait, it’s going to be tied into the new movie? Really? Come on!
Yes, the Terminator is coming back to the small screen. Well, provided his fifth movie does well, anyway, and in classic Terminator style it’s going to pretty much completely confuse the hell out of audiences:
The TV series will follow a critical moment from the first Terminator film (1984) and, where the film’s story goes one way, the upcoming series will take the same moment in a completely different direction. As the rebooted film trilogy and the new TV series progress, the two narratives will intersect with each other in surprising and dramatic ways.
In other words, it wants to be what we wish Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was now, only with the Terminator. Man, remember when they just did “webisodes” of this stuff? Also, do they really think they’re fooling us that this series will center around anything other than the death of Sarah Connor?
Honestly, this seems to be putting the cart before the horse, a bit. The series has been facing diminishing returns, to say the least, with Terminator 3 and Terminator: Salvation not exactly exciting audiences or critics. Furthermore, the fifth movie is smack in the middle of summer 2015, which, despite a few movies being pushed back, is still likely going to be Thunderdome for a few franchises.
Honestly, it doesn’t seem likely that a new Terminator movie will manage to turn that around, but hey, who knows? Maybe it’ll surprise us. Just make your show more like Arrow than Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., guys.
