It has been a long, ugly, very public divorce for Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, but new reports claim that the case has come to an end. According to TMZ, Heard has settled with Depp and brought the case to an end. Heard settled the case with prejudice according to TMZ — meaning she can never re-file against the actor — and dropped her request for a restraining order, leading to the resolution:
The divorce case, which was tied to the domestic-violence petition, is also resolved. As we reported, our sources say Johnny agreed to pay Amber approximately $7 million to walk away … that includes attorneys’ fees … at a point, $8 million was on the table, so she ended up with a mil less.
The couple released a joint statement following the settlement, with TMZ noting that neither made false accusations for financial gain:
“Our relationship was intensely passionate and at times volatile, but always bound by love…
“There was never an intent of physical or emotional harm…
“Amber wishes the best for Johnny in the future. Amber will be donating financial proceeds from the divorce to a charity.”
The tumultuous lawsuit saw plenty of public revelations and nastiness, most recently via a leaked video that alleged to show Depp raging at Heard and smashing a wine bottle. Many of Depp’s former lovers and friends rushed to his support when Heard first alleged the star had abused her, releasing photos that showed bruises and other marks. The settlement apparently puts all of that in the past, according to the statement.
