If anyone has the right to have some April Fools Day fatigue, it’s the neighbors of a Michigan college student who decided to light and throw a few firecrackers at her roommate. Sure, the couple whose breakup prank hilariously backfired almost metaphorically burned their relationship, but at least they still have a place to live.
According to UPI, three separate fire crews were called to the scene when the girls couldn’t contain the fire:
Investigators said the fire apparently started when one of the four female college students living in the apartment tossed a fire cracker at a roommate as part of an April Fools’ Day prank and the firework landed in hamper, igniting the laundry inside.
Neighbors said the girls knocked on the doors of other units in the search for a fire extinguisher, but the fire had grown too large by the time they were able to bring one back to the apartment.
Capt. David Pelton of the Allendale Fire Department said the fire was the first he knew of to be started by an April Fools’ prank.
While two of the units were deemed safe, four are still under quarantine — including the prankster’s apartment. The girls probably won’t be able to return to it for awhile, if at all. Moral of the story? Use sparklers instead.
