Actor and new father Ashton Kutcher has a problem with men’s public restrooms, specifically with something that they lack.
In a Facebook post, Kutcher criticized male public restrooms for rarely having diaper changing stations. Usually, diaper changing stations are installed in women’s public restrooms or family restrooms, but when there isn’t an accessible family restroom, this can cause problems for dads who need to change their child’s dirty diaper.
Kutcher promised that the first public restroom he finds with a changing station in the men’s room will get a shout-out from him on Facebook:
This issue is easily fixable and really shouldn’t be a problem in the first place. Installing diaper changing stations in men’s and women’s public restrooms is common sense and helpful for all parents, and there isn’t a good reason why this hasn’t happened already. Dad bloggers like Doyin Richards have been trying for years to get changing stations in men’s public restrooms, but legislature like the Potty Parity For Parents Act in California has hit road blocks:
California Governor Jerry Brown…vetoed the bill after it passed with bipartisan support in the State Assembly. But the dad blogger has not given up hope, as he continues to tackle this topic on Daddy Doin’ Work and encourages readers to celebrate businesses that provide changing tables in both men’ sand women’s restrooms and call out those only include them in the latter.
After all this time, maybe it will take a celebrity like Kutcher getting involved for something to happen. Changing the diaper of a squirming kid is tough enough, and for dads, this simple change could make their days a little easier.
