Joss Whedon spoke to Yahoo! at the premiere of Iron Man 3. He revealed he’s just finished the first draft of The Avengers 2 and is happy with it. But what really caught our attention is when he said (about two minutes into the video below), “I’ve got these two characters, two of my favorite characters from the comic book, a brother-sister act.”
Although he didn’t state which brother and sister he was talking about, we’re hoping for Scarlet Witch And Quicksilver. Both Marvel and Fox have the rights to use the two characters, as they’re the children of Magneto (Fox’s X-Men franchise) who later joined The Avengers (Marvel’s franchise). It would make sense for one of the studios to include them before the other gets the chance.
But we have to ask — if it is going to be Scarlet Witch And Quicksilver — will it be the Earth 616 version or the Earth 1610 version? Because the two on Earth 1610 have a super creepy relationship. We’re betting Marvel isn’t looking to blaze any “implied superhero incest” trails.
Bleeding Cool also offered up some brother-sister act alternatives:
Or Whedon could have meant some other brother-sister act, like Fenris. That’d bring Hydra back around, at least. Or maybe he even meant Captain Britain and Psylocke – the next Avengers film will be shooting in the UK, and Thor: The Dark World is partially set here too, so there’s plenty of opportunities for an introduction. And what was that rumour about Emily Blunt and Ruth Wilson being up for a role? Or maybe he means Coldmoon and Dragonfire. They’re Chinese, and Marvel might be looking to repeat the Iron Man 3 gambit again, working with China on the film, maybe even creating a different version of the film for that territory.
Emily Blunt and Ruth Wilson would both make an awesome Scarlet Witch. Which makes us wonder who would make a good Scarlet Witch And Quicksilver in The Avengers 2. Kat Dennings and Alexander Skarsgård? Emily Blunt and Cillian Murphy? Jessica Chastain and Taylor Kitsch? I’m really just listing people I want to see in spandex. Casting is fun!
