It only took 30 years, but the dream of everybody who ever owned both a Turtles action figure and a Batman action figure has finally been achieved: Batman and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are going to meet in a crossover.
According to DC’s press release, the plot is the usual universe-spanning bit: Krang, trying to get rid of the Turtles and Shredder, dumps them in the alternate reality of Gotham City. Needless to say, four giant turtles with Japanese weapons and a guy cosplaying as a cheese grater quickly attract Batman’s attention, and, well, you can guess what happens from there. DC and IDW have put James Tynion IV and Freddie Williams II in charge of the shenanigans, so they’ve got a solid creative team already.
Personally, though, I’m kind of hoping the Turtles land in Gotham and, at first, nobody cares that much. Really, when you live in a city regularly terrorized by people in funny outfits, four giant talking turtles probably don’t move the needle that much. They’d just better hope the Flash isn’t in town. That guy doesn’t have a great history with turtles. We’ll see this childhood dream of a crossover finally happen this November.
