In the wake of the terrorist attack on their staff, Charlie Hebdo has announced their intention to increase the usual circulation for their next issue and print one million copies, about twenty times more than normal. The news came from Richard Malka, the lawyer representing the French satirical publication, who said that an abbreviated issue will be released on schedule on Wednesday, January 14th. Malka spoke with French newspaper Le Monde, which has been providing support for the Charlie Hebdo staff since the attack as well as other French media outlets who released a joint statement on Twitter. In the interview, he reiterated the staff’s resolve:
“We need help,” said Richard Malka. “We no longer have a single pencil, plus archives, computers, nothing… But we have no doubt about solidarity with Charlie Hebdo. It is there.”
While they rebuild their operation, Charlie Hebdo‘s site has gone mostly black with the text “Je Suis Charlie” and a link to a PDF file containing the phrase in several different languages.
