Comedian Patrice O’Neal suffered a stroke last Wednesday, news of which was just announced this morning. He started out on the Boston scene in the 90s and has been a frequent guest on Tough Crowd With Colin Quinn and The Opie And Anthony Show, as well as being hilarious on the recent Roast of Charlie Sheen. The news of his illness was announced on The Opie And Anthony Show just a short while ago. The audio (NSFW for swearing) from the show is below. The announcement was made by the show’s titular hosts, co-host Jimmy Norton, and a group of Patrice’s fellow comedians and personal friends including Colin Quinn, Rich Vos, Robert Kelly, and Keith Robinson.
At first I thought this was a joke, being that it was announced on O&A, but they kept reiterating that it wasn’t a bit, and Bobby Kelly sounded genuinely upset (and, frankly, he’s not good at faking it). Other friends of Patrice from his Boston comedy roots, including Bill Burr and Dane Cook, tweeted well wishes a short while ago. We wish this were an elaborate prank, but sadly it seems to not be. Get well soon, you funny bastard.
