If you (a) live in or anywhere near Japan and (b) don’t practice safe sex, then Japanese condom maker Okamoto hopes to change your mind with its latest commercial. How? By demonstrating what could happen if a fiery night of coitus were to end much earlier than intended… with two computer-generated Tyrannosauruses. Or, as the esteemed mathematician and father-of-the-year Dr. Ian Malcolm once said, “Life, uh, finds a way.”
It makes sense if you think about it. Like two singles meeting in a bar one night, the two dinosaurs depicted meet in a clearing, roar at one another for a bit, then start getting it on in broad daylight. They both seem to be enjoying themselves, too… at least until the male Tyrannosaur encounters difficulties. According to Mashable, the commercial’s final tagline translates, “The male star is an overly enthusiastic lover.” Oops.
Renowned CG animator Kohta Morie created the short, 30-second ad for Okamoto, which hopes to promote safe sex practices and the Ultra-thin Zero One condom simultaneously. Whether or not it will work remains to be seen, but if you’re ever traveling in Japan and want to encounter a nice dinosaur late one night, then Okamoto is the brand for you.
