Rapsody is dope as sh*t. Sometimes that’s all that matters. Sure, her latest project She Got Game has 9th Wonder’s best production since Monkey Bars and features from Phonte, Jay Electronica, Chance The Rapper and Raekwon (to name a few) that will blow you away. But really, this is about Rapsody being dope as sh*t.
She’s a throwback to the Lyricist Lounge days, when lyrical acrobatics were more important than catchy hooks or universal appeal. Rapsody — North Carolina stand up, by the way — gnarls through the tracks with a ferocity that’s only matched by her cleverness.
It’s taken me a really long time to finish listening to the album because I’m listening to each song twice before moving along. Right now, “Lonely Thoughts” with Chance The Rapper is getting the most burn. But really, you can put the album on shuffle and land on a verse where Rapsody shows off her ability to stand toe to toe with some pretty lofty titans.
What else would you expect? Rapsody is dope as sh*t.
