Shy Glizzy – Fxck Rap Mixtape

Southeast D.C. rapper Shy Glizzy doesn’t think he has much in common with his music industry peers. Not unlike Pimp C’s famous declaration that his music was country rap tunes and not hip-hop, Pusha T reminding a rapper that “[I’m] not you. I live this sh*t,” and Jay-Z telling us all that he is a hustler who just happens to rap, Glizzy is determined to let the world know that he’s only in the rap game, not of it. He makes his special blend of cognitive dissonance the theme of his new mixtape entitled “Fxck Rap.”

Honesty is what separates the young hitter from most. From his tales of bouncing from school to school to juvenile detention on “Tru Story,” to one of the most realistic portrayals of getting money on the street (i.e. getting it, spending it without thinking, and then ending up broke) I have heard in years, Glizzy is just believable, which automatically puts him in rare company. Lyrically, he’s not going to have you reaching for the rewind button, but he is clever, and charismatic like a young Boosie, high-pitched voice and all. Features include the alleged $2 Million Man, Trinidad Jame$ and DC heavyweight, Wale. Shy Glizzy may not have a lot of love for the rap game, but with his latest release, it sounds like he’s going to be around for a while.
