Year in and year out, Al Jaffee uses clever design and artistic trickery to make us ruin the back covers of MAD Magazine. Sometimes it’s absurd, sometimes it’s goofy… and sometimes it’s painfully cutting, as this exclusive reveal of the Fold-In for MAD Magazine #529 shows us.
Jaffee has actually been at this particular feature for fifty years; the first Fold-In debuted in MAD #86, the April 1964 issue, and only six issues haven’t featured one in the intervening five decades. It’s one of the most beloved features, and when Jaffee did one for Jon Stewart’s book, they actually asked him to deliver it in person.
For the upcoming issue, #529, Jaffee takes on the trend of ’80s revivals:
