Before most of us poured the first drop of gravy on our turkey yesterday, Fabolous fed the Internet his newest mixtape, The Soul Tape 2. J. Cole, Joe Budden, Teyanna Taylor, Pusha T, Troy Ave. and more join Loso along for the ride on a project which could prove to be important to Fab’s immediate future.
Let’s be honest here. Fab’s seen more relevant days. What his ultimate legacy paints itself as was addressed here not too long ago, and something he mentions on “Diamonds” as a gift (or curse) that’ll “live forever.” TST2 is important for the now though. Since 2008, the best projects Fab has afforded rap were the first There Is No Competition and last year’s The Soul Tape. His albums – some better than others – have never carved an undeniable crater in rap his true talent frequently paints on other canvases.
Clocking in at 12 tracks, the hope stands Brooklyn’s own delivers a focused and sharp project with the wittiness he’s flashed throughout his career on several instances. From there, the momentum leads to a solid LP. First things first however. Make The Soul Tape 2 worth the listen. We’ll take it from there if that’s the case.
