French rally driver, skier, and champion snowboarder Guerlain Chicherit performed the first successful 360-degree backflip in a car. Well, the first intentional car backflip anyway. The stunt, seen in two videos below, took place at the Tignes ski resort in the Alps on Sunday.
After four years of training, Chicherit achieved the first car backflip twice. The first time was a private practice run. Then he performed the stunt with a modified MINI Countryman in front of a crowd. The ramp was 25 feet high, launching him 75 feet into the air, and it had to be hit at exactly the right speed. As Chicherit explains, “I had to arrive at 60kph [37mph] and be full throttle in the kicker to get the right rotation. In the jump, I knew the balance of the car was good and it took me maybe 20 seconds to realize I had landed on my wheels. […] It wasn’t the craziest thing I’ve ever done but for sure it’s in the top three.”
We’ll repeat, “It wasn’t the craziest thing I’ve ever done but for sure it’s in the top three.” What the hell are the other two? Did he kick a hippo in the nads? Let Gary Busey perform his appendectomy? Go storm chasing with Bill Paxton? Drink Crystal Pepsi? This dude sounds hardcore.
