THR reports Gary Oldman has signed on to star alongside Joel Kinnaman in MGM’s remake of RoboCop, which will likely start filming in Toronto this Fall.
Kinnaman will play RoboCop, and Oldman will be playing a new character named Norton, “the scientist who creates RoboCop and finds himself torn between the ideals of the machine trying to rediscover its humanity and the callous needs of a corporation.”
We’re not sure RoboCop needs new characters. On the other hand, we’re down with watching Oldman play a conflicted scientist in a movie directed by José Padilha of the “face-meltingly kickass” Elite Squad 2. We’d even be down with watching Oldman play an embattled dentist agonizing over whether or not to take all of the free pens from a booth at a dental expo instead of taking only one pen as is the polite expectation. We’re also down with watching him check the ripeness of melons at Trader Joe’s. Or doing anything, really.
