Art museums and galleries just aren’t for everybody. I don’t mean that in a negative way, simply that not everyone will enjoy walking around in a museum full of artwork from different periods. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, especially considering that art can at times feel a bit pretentious to outsiders. While stuff like street art has surged in popularity over the last decade, more abstract forms of traditional art tend to feel like the norm.

Mashable tells the tale of two Twitter users who decided to have some fun at an art gallery, only to see it succeed. So what exactly did they do? They placed a pair of glasses on the floor in a gallery where there was a blank space and watched. Eventually visitors would stumble upon the glasses on the floor and took it to be a piece of abstract art, gawk at it, photograph it and stare at it while trying to look thoughtful.

To say that it worked is an understatement. Ironically, what this says about art and the way that we consume it is perhaps more thought-provoking than it is funny. I mean, really, what is art, anyway? If these people found a pair of glasses on the floor to be interesting and got them talking then it’s a success, even if it seems kind of goofy in retrospect.
