We’re big fans of Grumpy Cat around these parts, doing not just one but two meme watches on this cuddly curmudgeon. This adorable little snowshoe cat has inspired many fans and has become her own franchise. She’s got numerous TV credits, a Webby Award, almost a million Facebook fans, 20 million YouTube views, officially-licensed merchandise in Walmart and other stores, a Friskies endorsement deal, and other income streams.
And now Grumpy Cat is getting a feature film.
Broken Road’s Todd Garner and Sean Robins, and Grumpy Cat’s reps (manager Ben Lashes and rep Al Hassas) have teamed up to produce and assemble a package for a Garfield-like feature film with the famous frowning feline at the center. Here, Grumpy Cat (real name Tardar Sauce) will be given the power of speech. [Deadline]
A Garfield-like Grumpy Cat, you say?
Yes, movies are being made out of internet memes. This isn’t even a first. The Rome Sweet Rome movie was optioned two years ago. We wonder if Grumpy Cat is happy about this whole thing…
And we have a feeling she’s probably not happy about her Wall Street Journal sketch either…
