We’ve got to confess a certain affection for “Darksiders”, the Joe Madureira-designed dungeon crawler, if for no other reason than it’s gleefully over the top in just about every respect, and there was a lot to do.
Something that, apparently, is going to go doubly for the sequel. One city area is going to feature more dungeons to crawl than the entire original game, and the overall maps are twice the size. In addition, a loot system has been added, giving the game a little more complexity and moving it away, slightly, from the Zelda that hides deep, deep within its DNA.
THQ has dropped a whole bunch of screenshots, a trailer that mostly Photoshops their design of Death into art history, and a few featurettes. Judging from the screenshots, you will leap and hit things with something heavy a lot. Check them out after the jump.
This is the closest we’ll get to a Wolverine/Swamp Thing battle.
Death really likes the leaping strike!
Hey, Skeletor got a mech! Oh wait.
Someone finally puts Bubsy in his place.
Death has a flaming ax? What, was Dante still borrowing the scythe?
We do like the scale in this one: we’re assuming something very angry and out to kill Death pulls that sword out of the ground at some point.
Spaying or neutering your pets is always a bitch when you’re the personification of a feared abstract concept.
We’re guessing THQ got the Rock Lords rights cheap.
Too bad they didn’t use “The Ambassadors”, that would have been ideal for this.
Hey, look, some gameplay footage!
Aaaaand some straight-up gameplay footage.
