Remember the two iPad thieves whose celebratory selfies were automatically uploaded to the victim’s iCloud account, leading to their arrest? Turns out they also made a video to commemorate the “good night’s hustle” at a Burger King two miles from the crime scene, then posted it on Facebook. Smart.
On Thursday, Dorian Walker-Gaines (20) and Dillian Thompson (22) were booked on felony theft charges in Houston. According to The Smoking Gun, Walker-Gaines is being held on $10,000 bond, while Thompson’s bond is set at $5000:
According to a criminal complaint, Walker-Gaines confessed that he and Thompson stole the iPad, $5000 in cash, a laptop, and other items from a vehicle owned by Stewart Schaefer, who left the car unlocked in front of his home earlier this month.
Schaefer subsequently discovered that a series of photos had been uploaded to his iCloud account from the stolen device. Those photos showed Walker-Gaines and Thompson inside a Burger King holding fans of $100 bills.
After the selfies went viral, a Reddit user came forward with the names and birthdays of the two thieves. It’s still unclear why Schaefer left his truck unlocked with all the loot inside, especially since the items stolen were worth roughly $9000.
