So, Fox holds the movie rights to the X-Men and Fantastic Four — it’s only two properties, but they’re big ones. You could argue the X-Men are worth as much as the rest of the Marvel Universe combined. They recently hired Mark Millar to oversee their Marvel properties. According to our own Dan Seitz this is a good thing.
Well, Millar has already made his first really good decision. Rather than trying to set up a separate little fiefdom based only on the X-Men and Fantastic Four (like Sony is trying to do with its handful of properties) Millar says he’d like Fox’s movies to share the same universe as the movies made by Marvel Studios. He had this to say…
“Fox have said that they want to build a cohesive universe and I’d personally like this to work in complement to the Marvel one. It would be cool if these universes didn’t contradict each other [,,,] I’d love to make it look like they’re all just happening in one place.”
Add to this the fact that X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner would “love” to do Avengers vs. X-Men and it seems likely Fox and Marvel Studios may be planning to get pretty chummy. Meanwhile Sony sits alone in the cafeteria sketching Venom/Ghost Rider crossover ideas in their notebook.
