During a promotional tour for Broken City, Mark Wahlberg was asked for his opinion on J.J. Abrams directing Star Wars Episode VII. Because when you have a question about Star Wars, you ask Mark Wahlberg. GRRR, JOURNALISM.
Wahlberg responded that Abrams offered him a role in Star Trek, but he turned it down. (We guess he just didn’t feel it, feel it.) He could have played George Samuel Kirk, father of James T. Kirk. One thing we know for certain is that George Kirk’s life wouldn’t have went down like it did if Mark Wahlberg had been there.
The part eventually went to Chris Hemsworth, and here’s Wahlberg’s explanation for passing on it.
“I tried to read the script. I couldn’t– I didn’t understand the words or the dialogue or anything. I said ‘I couldn’t do this. I think you’re really talented, but I couldn’t do it.’ And then I saw the movie and I was like ‘holy sh*t, he did a great job.’ I probably wouldn’t pass up an opportunity to work with J.J. again, so if he wanted me to do something that I couldn’t fully understand, I would probably give it a shot.” [Blastr]
Oh man, I hope J.J. Abrams tells Mark Wahlberg he’s thinking of someone for a huge role in Star Wars Episode VII and then Wahlberg perks up and goes, “Yeah?” and then Abrams says, “NOT YOU.”
Here’s the video of Mark Wahlberg’s opinions on Star Trek, by the way.
Okay, the real Mark Wahlberg interview is at Total Film, but I liked our video choice more.
