Being a scientist is the most important thing you can do in the Marvel Universe. Reed Richards, Tony Stark, Bruce Banner, Peter Parker, Hank Pym, Lunella Lafayette – the list of powerful, problem-solving nerds is long and storied. So, really, it just makes sense that Marvel plans to promote science education through a series of STEAM-themed (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) covers. Here’s what Marvel had to say about the new variants.
“With our new STEAM variants, we plan to continue to motivate our fans to explore their passions in the fields of science, technology, engineering, art, and math and present these disciplines through some of our favorite young heroes who are doing just that – following their dreams and preparing for the challenges that await them ahead.”
Each one of the covers focuses on one of the letters from the STEAM acronym. Here we have Moon Girl showing off her scientific chops.
Spider-Man tinkering with technology.
The Champions getting artistic.
And finally, Gwenpool doing a little math whist kicking ass.
It’s nice to see Marvel using their weird science-filled fictional world to encourage real-life budding scientists, and the diverse characters on display are a nice touch, as women and minorities remain underrepresented in STEM fields. Oh, and don’t worry, they didn’t forget the “E” — an Iron Man engineering cover featuring Riri Williams is on the way as well.
Marvel’s STEAM covers hit stands this November.
