“Brotox.” It’s not just a fun term for Nic Cage’s forehead anymore. That’s what a rising number of older men are calling the cosmetic enhancement procedures they’ve been undergoing to appear more youthful, because nothing says aging gracefully like injecting poison into your face for the sake of appealing to the BRO culture. Specifically, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons claims that the number of men opting for Brotox is up 10 percent from last year, with more than 300,000 men paying for the quick and supposedly painless procedure. With that in mind, this very serious and awkward news report from FOX Carolina informs us that trying to pretend you’re younger than you actually are isn’t just for the ladies anymore.
Ridiculous gender roles aside, one doctor believes that the reason for the rise in Brotox is due to older men trying to stay competitive in an increasingly younger workplace. Hey, remember when just working your ass off to be better than the next guy was a thing? Good times.
“They bring up specifically their employment and how it affects them in their job with their co-workers and with clients and people they meet,” Graham said.
He’s a plastic surgeon with the Aesthetic Center for Breast and Cosmetic Surgery in Greenville.
“We just take a version of you and make it better,” Graham said.
He said Botox injections are used to suppress some motion of muscles.
“The primary use is to get rid of the frown in between the forehead and the eyes,” Graham said.
In fact, to educate more men about Botox and other procedures, he schedules a men’s night out.
“Men often hear about this only in the context of what women are doing and not what other guys are doing,” he said. (Via CBS Atlanta)
