Along with the just announced Star Wars themed lands coming to Disneyland and Disney World, officials at the D23 expo announced a full slate of attractions that are headed Disney’s mega-popular resorts in the near future. Below are details about Shanghai Disneyland, Toy Story Land (!!), and more.
According to Inside the Magic, D23’s showroom floor was devoted to a preview exhibit of Shanghai Disneyland, opening in Spring 2016. Its Treasure Cove will feature a new Pirates of the Caribbean ride (in the video above), while Tomorrowland will devote space to Toy Story and Tron. Fantasyland will have a section for Tangled. The exhibit also featured a preview of Shanghai’s version of the Enchanted Storybook Castle and an 11-acre park called Gardens of Imagination, featuring “The Garden of the Twelve Friends,” centered on the Chinese zodiac.
Disney is also thinking big with the new “Pandora – The World of Avatar” attraction and a ride called “Flight of Passage” that will be located in The Animal Kingdom. Disney’s Hollywood Studios is also getting a new huge attraction with the 11-acre Toy Story Land. There, guests will be shrunken down (not actually!) to toy size and taken on a tour of Andy’s (not Sid’s?) backyard. The park will also have a Slinky Dog rollercoaster and giant green claw alien saucers. No ride where you can fly alongside Buzz Lightyear in 3D, though. That kind of experience is being reserved for those who venture to Hong Kong Disney, where the Iron Man Experience will debut.
Meanwhile at Epcot, Disney is expanding Epcot’s Norway pavilion to include Arendelle, the fictional kingdom ruled by Frozen heroines Anna and Elsa, and both Disneyland and Disney World are going to get a new version of the popular simulated Soarin’ ride, with visitors getting the chance to visit the Great Wall of China among other locales.
All-in-all, a pretty massive day for theme park obsessives.
