Cute story: A group of fourth graders in New Hampshire were learning all about the process by which a bill becomes a law. As part of their lesson, the kids actually wrote up a bill to present to the New Hampshire State House in Concord, where they were invited to meet some of their state representatives. The perfectly patriotic bill they proposed was “House Bill 373, an act establishing the Red Tail Hawk as the New Hampshire State Raptor.” While the bill actually passed the Environment and Agriculture committee, it wasn’t quite enough to get through the House, and it was defeated.
The kids were probably not expecting their bill to actually become law, but rather than allow this interactive teaching experience remain innocent and age-appropriate, Republican State Rep. Warren Groen, who voted against it, thought this looked like a great opportunity to talk about abortion (emphasis ours):
“[The Red Tail Hawk] grasps [its prey] with its talons then uses its razor sharp beak to basically tear it apart limb by limb, and I guess the shame about making this a state bird is it would serve as a much better mascot for Planned Parenthood.”
What the f*ck, dude?
He said this in front of children who are probably 8 to 10 years old. After defeating the pretend bill that they wrote together, as a team, for homework. For school. Elementary school.
New Hampshire State Rep. Warren Groen, everyone. He’ll probably have a great post-politics career designing hell houses at Halloween.
