Nick Cannon has let his thoughts be known — three times over the past week — about the nonprofit organization known as Planned Parenthood, which provides essential health services at low cost to millions of women. The above video, which features Cannon on The Breakfast Club last week, is currently making the rounds for statements that begin at 1:15. While Cannon discusses the election as a lesser-of-two-poisons scenario, this happens:
“And Hillary was sneaking … think about all the stuff did with Planned Parenthood and all that type of stuff. That type of stuff is to take our community — and forget gentrification, it’s real genocide, and it’s been like that for years. This system is not built for us. This is not our land. I appreciate it. I love it, wouldn’t want to live nowhere else. But this wasn’t designed for our people.”
Cannon seems to be exclusively talking about abortion here, but like many who share his opinion, he discounts how Planned Parenthood also provides cancer screenings and family-planning services to low-income women. The org educates and helps prevent the spread of STDs and treats existing cases. And Planned Parenthood also stocks low-cost birth control methods for women who feel they aren’t ready to have children yet (if ever).
Naturally, Cannon has been asked about these comments by eager paparazzi. TMZ has some Friday video footage from LAX, where Cannon repeated his sentiments: “It’s modern day eugenics … It’s population control.” And on Saturday, Cannon tweeted a “clarification,” which equates Planned Parenthood to “McDonalds, Hennessy, Privatised Prisons, public education etc. #Eugenics.”
Same issue I have with Planned Parenthood I have with corps like McDonalds, Hennessy, Privatised Prisons, public education etc. #Eugenics
