Last year we reported that Namco Bandai was planning a 3D animated Pac-Man TV show about situations, like his rampant drug use, binge eating, schizophrenic hallucinations of ghosts, and his hobby of putting on lipstick, tying his hair with a bow, and calling himself Ms. Pac-Man.
We haven’t heard anything about that show since last year, but that hasn’t stopped Namco Bandai from trying to get a piece of the Missile Command payola. Deadline reports Merv Griffin Entertainment and Namco Bandai are planning an unscripted series based on Pac-Man to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the game’s release.
The Pac-Man reality series is envisioned as a “big, crazy Wipeout-type event with a lot of energy,” said Merv Griffin’s president of TV Roy Bank. “The idea we have is to take what Pac-Man is and bring it to life, to bring what is essentially the world’s biggest game of tag to television.” [Deadline]
From that quote, it sounds more like a game show than a reality show. If that’s the case, Japan was once again ahead of the curve when they filmed this craziness:
