Damon Lindelof and Roberto Orci co-wrote the upcoming Star Trek 2. That’s not all they’ve written — these guys are Hollywood blockbuster producing robots, who have worked on, or soon will be working on, everything from The Watchmen, to Transformers, to Spider-Man. As a result they do a lot of interviews, and they’ve been doing some talking about Star Trek 2.
Most of the info they’ve dropped hasn’t been of much consequence (the new Enterprise set is larger and fancier than before, Benedict Cumberbatch is a good actor and so on) but during a fan Q&A Roberto Orci did strongly hint at something genuinely exciting — there’s gonna be Klingons in Star Trek 2. Also, there may be a new Star Trek animated TV show, but mostly, Klingons!
J. J. Abrams may have, in a roundabout way, confirmed this. Through an Easter egg hidden in the MTV Movie Awards no less. Hit the jump for the “proof”…
During the awards, Abrams did a little skit where he mentions Klingons, and behind him we saw this blurry image.
Doesn’t exactly look like the kind of Klingon we Trekkies know and lovingly cosplay as, but it does look an awful lot like this…
That’s a Klingon from the first J. J. Abrams movie. Klingons were supposed to make a cameo appearance in the film, but ended up on the cutting room floor. Well, it seems like they’ll be getting their screen time in Star Trek 2, and with Abrams going so far as to set up elaborate teases at awards shows, I have a feeling the Klingons will be getting more than a cameo this time.
Man, after you write it a dozen times, Klingon starts to seem like a very silly word.
