Does this short ad for University of Moncton look more like a beer commercial than a college recruitment video to you? Because it sure does to Moncton’s professors, who aren’t happy with one scene that features a pair of students making out in the Canadian university’s library:
Marie-Noëlle Ryan, the president of the university’s professors’ and librarians’ association, calls the video “pathetic.”
”It’s the way it’s like selling the university, like it’s a beer product,” Ryan said.
“And it’s not that way that you will recruit serious students and people who really want to learn and have good diplomas.” (Via CBC)
Students are divided on the issue, as evidenced by these offsetting quotes gathered by CBC:
Simon Paulin: “I can understand how they are trying to bring popularity to it because young people think about it a lot. But still I don’t think they should focus on that. It’s not really professional, cause we’re here to learn.”
Sebastien Mallet: “I thought that’s awesome. I really enjoyed it.”
Moncton says it stands by the video, which will appear on Radio-Canada until the end of March.
