It’s the time of year again, where the YouTube retrospectives start hitting us at every turn with the reminder that we ingested a lot of pop culture in the previous twelve months. One of my favorite “regulars” is Sleepy Skunk’s year end movie trailer mash up. 2011 had The Help set to Lords of Acid. 2010 mergedĀ Saw 3D and Metric. Those were good times. And for 2012 Sleepy Skunk has ramped his (or her) video editing ambition up a notch by dividing the review into three parts by theme.
Part One utilizes ‘Pruit Igoe’ by Philip Glass to highlight the dystopian comeback. Part Two segues to “Tick Tick Boom” by The Hives to focus on the action/silliness/Hollywood side of filmmaking in 2012. And Part Three features “Outro” by M83 to showcase the merger of mainstream and independent we experienced in some of the year’s best films. Even more on the reasoning here, along with a full movie list here. Warning: there’s a sick cat dedication for those of you who could potentially have your day ruined by sick cat news.
