If you’re basing a game off of The Dark Knight Rises you’ve got two problems. Those problems are:
- The fact that the movie The Dark Knight Rises has been getting rapturous reviews, whines from the expected peanut gallery notwithstanding.
- The fact that you’re competing with the Batman: Arkham games.
On their own, these are problems. Taken together… yikes. Gameloft has its job cut out for it. Especially since that unlike the console games, this is a tie-in being released day-and-date with the actual movie. Here’s the trailer:
Here’s the thing, for a mobile game, this actually looks pretty good. How much of that is prerendered footage and how much of that is actual gameplay is anybody’s guess. Mobile games have improved considerably since the days of repackaging Bubble Bobble but this probably won’t run that smoothly on all phones and tablets.
On the bright side, if it’s got to be a PS2-ish knockoff of the Arkham series, at least it seems a willing and able PS2-ish knockoff of the series. We’ll give it a play when it comes out on Friday and offer a review.
