The Flash has not been shy about casting major villains. But there’s only going to be one hero in Central City, right? Turns out, not so much.
According to Variety, the nightmare of ’80s comics nerds is coming true: Vibe is making the leap to the small screen. But at least they got somebody reasonably experienced to play him:
Carlos Valdes, who plays Andrej in the musical “Once,” joins Grant Gustin, Jesse L. Martin and Candice Patton in Warner Bros. Television’s potential “Arrow” spinoff from Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and David Nutter. Berlanti and Kreisberg are also penning the script with DC Entertainment’s Geoff Johns and Nutter will direct.
For those unfamiliar, Vibe, until recently, was the Scrappy Doo of the DC Universe. He was introduced as part of Justice League Detroit (we know, we know), and was a breakdancing Latino gang member. It was a well-meaning attempt to make the DCU perhaps a little more diverse, and as you may have guessed, horribly backfired.
DC reinvented the character recently and now he’s not nearly as obnoxious or stereotyped, which admittedly is a low bar, but still, they did clean him up. And now apparently, he’s going to be on The Flash. Also of interest is that Vibe is one of the few superheroes who can actually take out the Flash, and we’re assuming they didn’t introduce him to the show to have him just sidekick it with our hero.
Oh, and according to Deadline, we’ve also got our Iris, Candace Patton of The Game. Hopefully Detective Ed Green won’t beat up Barry too much when Barry starts dating his daughter.
