There are a handful of podcasts I listen to on a regular basis, and NPR’s “This American Life” with Ira Glass and “Fresh Air” with Terry Gross are two of them. I’ve been subscribing to both of them for a few years now, so, needless to say, I’ve literally spent hundreds of hours listening to these two people talk.
With that said, in that entire span, I doubt that I’ve ever imagined either of them having sex at any point. At the risk of offending them, I’ve always imagined Ira Glass and Terry Gross to be two of the most asexual people on the planet — if they reproduced I would guess that it’d be carried out in the same way that an amoeba reproduces or something, through binary fission or whatever it’s called, and not through actual human f*cking.
So you can imagine how both shocking and hysterical I found this extremely well done YouTube parody by Julian Joslin. Everything about it is near perfect — Joslin’s imitation of Ira Glass, the pitch-perfect cloning of a typical TAL episode, the use of out-of-context clips from “Fresh Air” — everything. The end result is a fake episode of “This American Life” that culminates in Glass and Gross having some very NPR-y sex. Let’s call it “This American Shag,” and let’s all be thankful that the real thing doesn’t actually exist on the internet to haunt our dreams forever. OR DOES IT?!
Side note: The streets saw this coming long ago…
