6’4″, 140 pound contortionist-cum-actor Doug Jones revealed something interesting on the Nerdist podcast. He’s known for playing characters like Abe Sapien in Hellboy, Cochise on Falling Skies, Fauno in Pan’s Labyrinth, The Silver Surfer in Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Pencilhead in Mystery Men, one of the Gentleman in the “Hush” episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and “Thin Clown” in Batman Returns. Lots of nightmare fuel on that list (especially Batman Returns), so his next role should fit right in.
He hinted at playing the Slender Man during the podcast. In addition to being funnier than the average episode, Jones said this at the 55 minute point:
Doug Jones: “I did a movie this summer […] shot in a reality-style with that hand-held, found footage sort of style, based on a web series that is based on an internet legend and that’s all I can tell you. […] I can’t confirm or deny any of your guesses.”
Chris Hardwick: “Is it Slender Man?”
Doug: “I can’t confirm or deny anything, but I might have played a rather notable character.”
Chris: “Is it the Slender Man?”
Matt Mira: “IT’S GOATSE!” [Editorial note: Do not Google this.]
Doug: “I’m not confirming or denying anything. I’m not going to say.”
Chris: “Is he a slender man? Would you describe his frame as–”
Doug: “Okay, Chris, look at me.”
Chris: “Fat Albert?”
It should be noted Jones knew the Slender Man webseries is named MarbleHornets and has over 66 million views (which translates into over $200,000 in YouTube dollars, which can be traded in for kittens and cleavage-baring tank tops if you want even more YouTube views.) We doubt Jones would know exactly how many YouTube views the Slender Man webseries has if he didn’t play the character in the Slender Man movie.
And hey, we already know he has the body type play Slender Man based on his work as the Ice Cream Man in Legion.
Aaaand I’m never sleeping again.
