Firefly‘s Jayne Cobb was a fictional wild card with a tendency to say idiotic things that offended those around him. Adam Baldwin played Jayne Cobb and is a real-life wild card with a tendency to say idiotic things that offend those around him. As a rule, people really like one and really dislike the other because life is funny like that. That’s why there’s a petition to disinvite Baldwin from Supernova, an Australian sci-fi convention:
The Supanova petition asks that he be removed from the convention’s guest list due to his involvement in the [GamerGate] movement, explaining, “Over the past six months, Adam Baldwin has been involved in numerous instances of harassment and abuse towards women.” The petition also accuses the actor of tweeting links to the doxxed personal details of game developers Brianna Wu and Zoe Quinn, who were both driven from their homes as a result of Gamergate-related harassment. Wu spoke out in support of the petition, describing Baldwin as a “sexist bully.”
Baldwin has been a big proponent of GamerGate. He even helped name it. Naming GamerGate and the Jayne hat — his greatest contributions to society (oh, and that time he compared gay marraige to parent/child incest).
The petition currently has 4,700 signatures. A pro-GamerGate, pro-Baldwin counter-petition now has 4,400 signatures. Baldwin has declared himself a victim of lies, libel and defemation.

Supanova is presently making its decision to cut or keep Baldwin and posted its official response on its Facebook page.
