If there’s one thing that is universally praised in film and TV, it’s the getaway drive. A heart-pounding, adrenaline-pumping getaway through a busy downtown street can be the standout portion of any type of media. Some of the best have occurred in superhero movies, Oscar winners, and even Ryan Gosling-led pictures. But sometimes life isn’t always as exciting as a William Friedkin movie.
In one of the most lackluster getaway attempts ever seen, a man in Tucson tried to leave a Walmart on a scooter with some stolen merchandise. This may only rival George Costanza’s flee from a gang of unruly seniors.
The suspect in question tried feverishly to leave the Walmart with a number of unpaid for items he had stuffed into his transportation’s basket. An employee noticed the man on the scooter and tried to stop him. Undeterred, the suspect drove around the store trying to evade capture, before pinning a poor Walmart employee against the wall. Thankfully, two customers helped the employee free herself, but the suspect scooted off into the sunset.
Authorities say the suspect is still out there and should report if they see him. But you have to ask, how could no one just off and tried to track him down. Unless he was doing some Tokyo Drift-style driving, it is presumed an average person could theoretically catch up with them. But there have been known to be souped-up scooters on the market, so maybe this was the one he was riding.
