Will Arnett was one of five guests on the Marc Maron WTF podcast earlier this week. At one hour and thirteen minutes into this clip he starts talking about the Arrested Development movie, or Arrested Development 3D as he jokingly renames it. I’ve transcribed some highlights below along with some .gifs courtesy of this Tumblr.
On the cancellation of the show:
Will Arnett: You’re working with people and you feel like you’re doing kinda great and then they tell you, “No, you’re done.” And you go, “Wait, what did we do wrong?” And they’re like, “Nah, you guys were good. It’s kinda not what we do here.”
On the movie and his opinion on 3D movies:
Will Arnett: We are going to make the Arrested Development movie. Mitch Hurwitz, who is really just a brilliant, brilliant guy, is in the process right now of concocting something that’s really kind of unexpected. That I really don’t want to give away, but I think the fans are going to be really satisfied. If all goes well — write your congressman — if all goes well I think it’s going to be something really satisfying for people who are fans of the show. They just want to see the characters back and interacting, and he’s come up with a cool way to do that.
Marc Maron: I think what you’re hinting at is 3D, am I right?
Will Arnett: We hadn’t even thought about that, but that’s a great idea. Is– is it just me? Does 3D suck? Right? I mean, it sucks. It feels like a lot of f-ckin’ work. The glasses suck. … “Oh, it was coming right at me.” So what? Who gives a sh-t? You go in knowing that’s not real, so what the hell, man? Are you tricking yourself? I don’t know.
The answer is yes. 3D does suck. Unless it’s the 3D in the .gif on the next page.
Sword of Destiny!
What an amazing trick . . .
