Some wine-o Grinches made off with $300,000 worth of wine on Christmas from Napa’s Michelin-starred restaurant, The French Laundry.
The restaurant was closed for planned kitchen remodeling since December 24, and it is scheduled to reopen late summer or early fall in 2015. According to the restaurant’s Instagram page, the thieves broke a door to gain entry to the cellar, and they asked for assistance from anyone who might have information about the robbery.
The restaurant has released the complete list of stolen wine bottles, and it appears the thieves involved have exquisite taste. Numbers crunched by the Los Angeles Times value the stolen wine at over $300,000, including several bottles of a DRC Romanée Conti vintage worth up to$15,000 each. Seventy-six bottles were taken in all, and in addition to the previously reported brands Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and Screaming Eagle, TFL confirms bottles of Clos de la Maréchale and Dom Perignon were stolen, as well.
The L.A. Times has compiled a list of the reportedly stolen wines. So far, there are no bottles of Merlot on the list, so perhaps investigators can narrow down their suspects to fans of 2004’s Sideways.
