On Wednesday night, winning Powerball numbers for the record $1.5 billion jackpot ceremoniously surfaced, and the California lottery was swift in revealing how a winning ticket traced to a store in Chino Hills. The internet promptly lost its sh*t with a number of memes and lots of irritation over the massive median household income of $97,065 in Chino Hills. In all likelihood, a $2 ticket made someone richer than some countries.
There’s always a question of whether a winner will expose themselves to a world full of scam artists, but one guy was eager to sacrifice himself for some “winning” attention. Erik Bragg — also known as ThisGuysTheLimit on Instagram — swiftly posted this photo with a wigged out caption: “I WON $1.5 BILLION!!!!! I’m posting this in case anyone tries to jack me this is proof! Look it up I bought in chino hills where I grew up!”
This isn’t really a plausible claim, is it? The sleuths at BroBible noticed how a few key letters are missing from the photographed ticket. This guy found sudden viral fame with more than 75,000 “likes” in only a few hours, so perhaps that’s enough of a prize. In addition, winning tickets were later drawn in Florida and Tennessee, so it’s barely possible that one person could walk away with the full pot. People are still going nuts, however, as the below images show, for it’s nice to dream of being astronomically rich.
