SOME DUDE JUST DIED

By 03.18.08

Anthony Minghella, the Oscar-winning director of The English Patient, Cold Mountain, and The Talented Mr. Ripley has died at the age of 54.

Minghella was recently in Botswana filming an adaptation of Alexander McCall Smith’s novel "The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency." It is due to air on British television this week.

The book is the first in a series about the adventures of Botswanan private eye Precious Ramotswe; a 13-part television series was recently commission by U.S. network HBO. [Yahoo]

No word yet on cause of death, but since he was just in Africa, we can only assume he had the ebola virus, or the hanta virus, or salmonella, or some kind of  gnarly rhino wound. Fuckin rhinos, man.
