Question marks in the headline can mean only one thing: it’s time to speculate wildly! I’d rather speculum wildly, but here we are!
When the news hit that Brett Ratner would be directing Beverly Hills Cop 4, the question on most peoples’ minds was, "I wonder how badly he’s going to fuck this up." The answer, it appears, is really really really badly.
When asked what is biggest challenge would be, Ratner seemed to indicate that his new film would be geared towards a very PG audience. “10-year-old kids, 12-year-old kids don’t really know the old ‘Beverly Hills Cop.’ So it’s an opportunity to make it new for kids,” Ratner said. “The same way it felt for me watching ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ when I was a kid, that’s what I want to do for kids today.” [MTV]
It’s a bit of a leap to say that just because he wants 10-year-old kids to watch it it won’t be hilariously vulgar. Maybe he’s just like me and he thinks little kids should harden the fuck up and learn what the real world is like instead of being little High School Musical-loving fairies. In fact, sometimes I just walk around town smacking random kids upside the head and when they look back at me all confused with tears in their eyes I just yell "Life sucks!" and keep walking. I consider myself an important educator.
